Rediscover the pleasure of skiing

Since 1995, the Adaptive Sports Foundation has taught hundreds of participants in its adapted alpine skiing program at Owl’s Head. Special Olympics Quebec also offers group courses. We believe that everyone deserves a chance to reap the benefits of practicing a sport; it has long been important to us to offer parasports services to individuals living with physical or intellectual impairments.

THE ADAPTED SPORT PROGRAM

The program is designed for any individual with reduced mobility, from age 8 up, who needs adapted equipment. Nearly 100 volunteers help teach the courses as instructors, assistant instructors or snowmobile drivers. We strongly recommend that you register as early as possible, due to the limited number of places in the program. Online registration does not guarantee a place in the program. Registration for each activity must be approved based on the number of volunteers available for the date (s) chosen.

What is the cost of the program?

A complete session includes:

A positioning and skills assessment clinic (2 hours)
4 individual ski lessons of 3 hours adapted to your category
A discovery activity of 2 hours
Loan of adapted equipment during lessons
The lift ticket for each day of activities
An annual membership to CADS (Sports de glisse adaptés Canada) including liability insurance (value of $ 40)

* When your seat for a session is confirmed, full payment is required and no refund will be made. If a day of activity was to be canceled, we do not guarantee that it will be resumed.

Steps to take after receiving confirmation of a spot in the program

If your request is approved, you will receive a confirmation email with payment instructions. ALL payments must be made before the deadline to confirm your place. No payment will be accepted on site the day of the activity.

Can I sign up for a single one-day lesson?

A single lesson includes:

A skills assessment, a positioning clinic or an individual lesson lasting 2 hours
The loan of adapted equipment during the lesson
The lift ticket for the duration of the lesson
A daily membership to CADS (Sports de glisse adaptés Canada) including a liability insurance (value of $ 10)

Individual one-day lessons are offered depending on the availability of instructors

COST & PAYMENT
Full session: $ 300
Individual lesson: $ 85/2 hours
Training session for self-ruling athletes: $ 50 / participants (minimum of 3 participants)

How can I contribute to the success of the Adaptive Sports Foundation?

The Adaptive Sports Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that relies on the generosity of individuals, companies and foundations to help it offer quality programs to individuals with disabilities. This support allows us to purchase specialized equipment, train personnel and lower the cost of our courses. As a registered charity, the FSA can send you a receipt for income tax purposes.

The Quebec Special Olympics

AN ENRICHING EXPERIENCE

Special Olympics Quebec offers group courses at Ski Owl’s Head, supervised by qualified alpine skiing instructors who have experience with individuals living with an intellectual disability and assisted by designated volunteers. Competition organizers make sure that each athlete has an enriching sporting experience. To achieve this, they group participants by skill level in divisions of between 3 and 8 special athletes. In this way, each athlete has a real chance to reach the top step of the podium.

Who can participate?

Regardless of sports ability, every individual living with an intellectual disability has access to the Special Olympics Quebec competition network. Athletes of all ages are accepted.

What is the course calendar?

Courses are held on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The complete course is eight weeks, running from January to March. Three provincial competitions are scheduled during this period.

What are the requirements for participating in the program?
  • Beginner – A volunteer is required and assigned to each athlete (to help put on equipment and assist on the slopes). We encourage a new volunteer to be designated and available for the 8 weeks for each new athlete who joins the program.
  • Intermediate/advanced – Should be able to put on skis and do controlled snowplough or better. Volunteers are hand to supervise the group.
What is the cost of the program?
  • The cost is $150 before financial assistance. The price includes lift tickets and lessons. Financial assistance is granted by Special Olympics Quebec for lessons and equipment rental; 50% refundable for a maximum of $75 for the season.
  • Equipment rental is available for an additional cost.
  • A lift ticket costs $20 for family members. To encourage volunteering, the afternoon ticket is free.
