DISCOVER OWL’S HEAD FOR THE FIRST TIME

It is often said that our mountain is the best-kept secret in the Eastern Townships. That’s primarily because once people discover it, they want to keep it all to themselves. Every day offers a different quality of light. Every run toward the lake below is a fresh dose of pleasure. You’re at Owl’s Head, the get-away-from-it-all spot closest to home.

Someone’s invited you to play golf and it’s your first time? Or maybe you’ve just decided to try a new sport this summer? Golf is a wonderful way to enjoy the summer and Quebec’s natural beauty. Plus, it’s the ideal antidote to the stress of everyday life. Ready to play? Before you start, here are a few tips.

Sign in for golf game

Golfers must sign in at the pro shop at least 15 minutes before their start time. Latecomers will lose their allotted tee time and will play only if there’s availability at some other time during the day.

Playing time

Normal playing time for a foursome is about 4.5 hours, and 4 hours for a duo or trio.

Attire

Owl’s Head doesn’t have a strict dress code, but we recommend attire that is clean, appropriate and tasteful. Closed shoes are preferable, as are cotton garments. A polo, pants or Bermuda shorts and a cap are the golfer’s usual attire.

Cell phones

The use of cell phones is not permitted on the course.

Spectators

Spectators are welcome on the course but must follow the same rules and etiquette as golfers.

Game speed

Always be ready to play your turn. During a friendly round, follow the “Ready golf’ rule, always keeping other players’ safety in mind. On the green, line up your shot while another player plays. Write down your score at the next starting tee. Game speed will depend on how quickly players finish their rounds. For a pleasant pace, make sure you follow the foursome playing ahead of you at all times.

Lost balls

If you go looking for a lost ball, we ask that you respect the pace and speed of the game. Take a reasonable amount of time so that you don’t fall too far behind the group playing ahead of you.

Weather conditions

Weather conditions can vary greatly. We ask that you monitor conditions while at Owl’s Head.

Divots, ball marks and bunkers

We ask that you replace lawn divots, fix ball marks on the green and rake the sand in the bunkers; please also put the rakes back in the bunker afterward.

Motorized carts

All motorized golf carts should follow the 90-degree rule on the paths. If the “carts only on path” rule is in effect, all carts should comply with it, unless otherwise authorized by a course manager. No carts are permitted within 10 metres of the perimeter of the greens or within 3 metres of starting tees. Keep carts behind the white poles on the greens. Avoid, as much as possible, driving a cart on a damp course or in the ruts of other carts. Motorized cart drivers are responsible for all damage to the golf cart or the property. Be prompt in notifying a club employee of any incident or injury.
